Safe Haven Homes

The Safe Havens

Our main goal is to establish Safe Havens for girls rescued from the
child sex trade industry. Each Safe Haven will encompass the following:

LAND – Whenever possible, each home will be built on land no less than 5 acres. We will always look outside the city for privacy, protection and healing. The land will then be used for the following:

LODGING – The homes will be designed for 2-4 girls per room with a maximum of 50 girls per home. Depending on the country, facilities, amount of land and trained personnel, a home could be designed to house up to 100 children.

EDUCATION – In most countries where we will be working, these children are ostracized from society. In many cases, these girls will be infected with HIV/AIDS. As a result, they will not be welcome in the public school system (where available). Each home will include educational facilities and will use curriculum already available. Each child will have every possible opportunity to go as far as possible in their education and chosen vocation.

The following will be part of the education facility.

Arts – this is vital in the healing process
Drama
Music
Creative Writing/Poetry
Art – Including Drawing/Painting/Pottery, etc…

These children need an outlet to express their feelings, which is another piece of the healing process. The arts have proven to be a wonderful resource.

FOOD – The food will come from 2 sources. Purchased (when necessary) and grown or prepared on the property. Using our already proven and successful models in India and Venezuela each property will have as part of the program, the planting of vegetable gardens to teach small farming skills (very necessary in some countries). Again, depending on the country, facilities and personnel, there will be the potential of the following:

Planting of local fruit trees for food and bringing the excess to the market.
Raising chickens for both eggs and marketing
Several cows, sheep or goats
Bread-making facility
Small fish pond

PLAYGROUND – The facility will include complete playground activities conducive to the country. Play/Sports is an integral part of the healing process.

MEDICAL – A vital part of each facility. Depending on the size, each home will have a small clinic. Our desire is to build a relationship with a local Doctors and Medical Facilities when available. Many of these girls will be infected with HIV/AIDS. Their treatment and care would be a major priority. We will also be putting together medical/dental teams from the USA, Europe and Australia for short-term missions.

REHABILITATION – These children have deep and extreme emotional scars. Some that will never heal. Each facility will have trained professionals and lay people to help the child in the psycho and bio-social rehabilitation with the goal of them becoming productive citizens in their society.

SPIRITUAL – A “Hiding Place” will be a small chapel where the child can go for a time of prayer & spiritual healing.

EXPENSES - A comprehensive study would be prepared in each location to determine exact costs. We will also be traveling to various nations to meet with local officials and NGO Directors to determine future locations for Safe Havens, as well as already established homes we can support and work with.

THE JOY INTERNATIONAL
SAFE HAVEN SEAL OF APPROVAL

Many abuses have been found in children’s homes around the world. As a result, Dr. Brodsky and his team of professionals have developed a strict criterion for already established children’s homes to be approved for the awarding of The Safe Haven Seal Approval. When an established home is approved and meets that criterion, they will receive the Seal of Approval Plaque along with financial support from JOY International.
