JOY International Mukti Home

In Nepal, the JOY International Mukti Home is a safe home for survivors of child trafficking, ages 8 to 18. Each girl living at the JOY International Mukti Home receives safe housing, remedial education, counseling, job training, family support, medical care, legal representation, 24-hour security, and lots of love as they navigate their journey toward healing. With a total staff including house moms, counselors, educators, security team, legal team, and social workers, Mukti operates at a nearly 1:1 ratio of staff to survivors. The home can accommodate an average of 30 minor survivors and currently has 28 staff members.

Each year, 15,000 women and 5,000 girls are victims of sex trafficking in Nepal. The current recidivism rate in Nepal is 90%, meaning 90% of survivors return to trafficking. In 2023, Mukti Home reduced the recidivism rate of the girls they cared for to just 5%. The National Human Rights Commission of Nepal toured Mukti Home and has since designated Mukti Home their #1 referral agency for sex trafficking cases involving minors in all of Nepal! This demonstrates the quality of care being received at Mukti, and JOY International is so proud of the staff there!

The staff at JOY International's Mukti Home works with a highly skilled team of rescue investigators to investigate cases of child trafficking in Nepal and neighboring countries. The partner Investigative Rescue Team has received training provided by JOY International to ensure that they have the necessary skills for performing investigations and rescues with the highest standards of care for survivors. They always work with local law enforcement for every rescue. Mukti Home staff are involved in any potential trafficking investigation, and female social workers are available for any newly rescued girl, letting them know they are now loved and safe. Rescues are always coordinated with the police and social services to ensure that the survivor has access to every resource possible for their long-term care, and legal action against traffickers is pursued when possible.

The freedom, healing, and empowerment pillars are all represented in the work accomplished through the JOY International Mukti home.
